Rodney Williams Announces for City Council

 

With a commitment to being a new, independent voice focused on the future, Rodney Williams today announces his candidacy for Charleston City Council District #2.

 

The district comprises a large section of West Ashley, mostly west of the Mark Clark Expressway. 

 

The Right Values - In his years of extensive community service, Rodney has an outstanding track record of building bridges and working with all types of people to implement new ideas that will have a lasting impact in our community. As a successful business owner and a non-profit executive, Rodney has been an effective leader who has shown that he knows how to bringing together people from government, community groups and business to get things done.

 

A Proven Leader - For 8 years Rodney was an Housing Director with the Sea Island Habitat for Humanity that brought together people from all parts of the community to build homes for low income families. As volunteer for many years in Charleston County schools, he understands that we must dramatically improve our schools so that our children will have a better future. And, on behalf of the Smoke Free Initiative, Rodney worked effectively with local governments and community groups to implement new ideas and policies to promotes smoke free and healthier communities in Charleston and around South Carolina

 

A Clear Vision – Rodney has a clear vision as to how we can improve the quality of life of the people in District 2. The old ways are not working and Rodney’s priorities are:

  • Build greater community support to improve our children’s schools
  • Reduce flooding with improvements in drainage infrastructure
  • Relive traffic congestion with better traffic management strategies and new road improvements
  • Improve public safety with new community policing initiatives and greater neighborhood involvement
  • More affordable housing with new types of development and financing partnerships
  • New job opportunities especially focused on technology related, high paying jobs

 

A New Kind of Leader – Above all, Rodney will listen. He believes that it is the people of the local community, not the government downtown that has the best ideas for improving the local community. He will serve as a new voice for these ideas on City Council. Rodney will work tirelessly to improve the quality of life for the West Ashley area as we prepare for future growth.

 

West Ashley needs a new leader who has the proven experience, the right values and a clear vision as to how we can improve the quality of life for everyone in our community.

 

Rodney Williams will be that new voice for the future.
